EU tech industry IT recruitment activity drops 6.9% in August 2022

Europe saw a 6.9% decline in hiring activity in the IT sector in August 2022 compared to the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

August 2022 saw a 3.31% decline in overall hiring activity compared to July 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 24.85% share of total industry hiring activity in August 2022, down 1.13% from the average share for the past three months.

Software and Website Developers, Programmers and Testers Occupations Lead by Classification in August 2022

The professions of software and website developers, programmers and testers emerged as the main IT profession in Europe with a share of 55.16% in August 2022, an increase of 1.68% compared to the previous month . Database and network administrators and architects came next, with a 16.25% share in August 2022, marking a 20.08% month-over-month increase. In third place were computer and information analysts with a share of 13.08% in August 2022, an increase of 2.22% from July 2022.

IT support specialists recorded a share of 8.14% in August 2022, an increase of 25.71% from the previous month.

Top five tech companies in IT recruitment activity in Europe in August 2022

The top five companies, by number of jobs tracked by GlobalData, represented a combined average growth of 6.79% in overall European tech industry IT recruitment activity in August 2022 compared to the previous month.

DXC Technology posted 519 IT jobs in August 2022 and was down 25% from the previous month, followed by Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson with 517 jobs and growth of 3.61%. Atos with 221 IT jobs and TIM with 190 jobs, recorded a 15.1% increase and stable growth respectively, while Nippon Telegraph and Telephone recorded a 26.85% increase with 189 vacancies in August 2022.

Country composition of IT recruitment in the European tech industry

The UK was leading in the region’s tech industry IT recruitment activity with a 19.8% share in August 2022, an increase of 23.98% from July 2022 Germany was next with a share of 11.87%, up 16.16% from the previous month. Switzerland recorded a share of 10.57%, a growth of 6.91% compared to July 2022.

Junior-level job openings dominate in August 2022

Junior-level jobs held a share of 66.61%, up 4.7% from July 2022. Mid-level positions, with a share of 19.23%, saw a growth of 5.79 % compared to the previous month.

In third place were entry-level vacancies with 13.56% market share, up 16.93% from July 2022, while senior vacancies accounted for 0.6%, registering a monthly growth of 50%.
