IT hiring activity in South and Central America’s tech industry drops 3.7% in July 2022

South and Central America saw a 3.7% decline in IT hiring activity in the tech industry in July 2022 compared to the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

July 2022 saw a 2.58% decline in overall hiring activity compared to June 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 25.6% share of total industry hiring activity in July 2022, down 0.49% from the average share for the past three months.

Software and Website Developers, Programmers and Testers Occupation Leaders by Classification in July 2022

The professions of software and website developers, programmers and testers have become the main IT profession in South and Central America with a share of 63.1% in July 2022, a decrease of 3.17% compared to to the previous month. IT and information analysts came next, claiming a 12.13% share in July 2022, marking a 20.51% month-over-month increase. In third place were database and network administrators and architects with a share of 9.68% in July 2022, an increase of 15.38% from June 2022.

IT support specialists recorded a share of 7.61% in July 2022, an increase of 7.27% from the previous month.

Top Five Tech Companies in IT Recruitment Activity in South and Central America in July 2022

The top five companies, by number of jobs tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 14.33% in overall South and Central America tech industry IT hiring activity in July 2022 compared to the previous month.

Wipro posted 112 IT jobs in July 2022 and saw an increase of 143.48% from the previous month, followed by International Business Machines with 104 jobs and a decline of 21.8%. Accenture with 65 IT jobs and Delivery Hero with 47 jobs, saw a decline of 21.69% and a rise of 38.24%, respectively, while Microsoft saw a 56% increase with 39 job openings in July 2022.

Composition by country of IT hiring in the South and Central America technology industry

Brazil topped the region’s tech industry IT recruitment activity with a 47.1% share in July 2022, stable growth from June 2022. Colombia was next with a share of 14.32%, up 15.63% from the previous month. Costa Rica recorded a share of 13.94%, a growth of 0.93% compared to June 2022.

Junior-level job openings dominate in July 2022

Junior-level jobs held a 68% share, down 0.75% from June 2022. Mid-level positions, with a 16.65% share, saw a 12.24% decline from June 2022. compared to the previous month.

In third place were entry-level job vacancies with a 15.35% share, up 38.37% from June 2022.
