IT hiring activity in South and Central America’s tech industry drops 6.6% in March 2022

South and Central America saw a 6.6% decline in IT hiring activity in the tech sector in March 2022 compared to the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

March 2022 saw a 0.04% decline in overall hiring activity compared to February 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 29.06% share of total industry hiring activity in March 2022, down 3.6% from the average share for the past three months.

The professions of software and website developers, programmers and testers have become the main IT profession in South and Central America with a share of 78.12% in March 2022, a decrease of 25.67% compared to to the previous month. Database and network administrators and architects came next, with a 6.69% share in March 2022, marking a 28.72% month-over-month decline. In third place were miscellaneous IT occupations with a 5.89% share in March 2022, down 36.56% from February 2022.

IT support specialists recorded a share of 5.79% in March 2022, down 34.09% from the previous month.

Top five tech companies in IT recruitment activity in South and Central America as of March 2022

The top five companies, by number of jobs tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 4.89% in overall South and Central America tech industry IT hiring activity in March 2022 compared to the previous month.

International Business Machines posted 207 IT jobs in March 2022 and recorded an increase of 2.99% from the previous month, followed by Accenture with 100 jobs and growth of 72.41%. TOTVS with 46 IT jobs and Delivery Hero with 40 jobs, saw a drop of 37.84% and a rise of 33.33%, respectively, while Capgemini saw a drop of 21.74% with 36 job offers. employment in March 2022.

Composition by country of IT hiring in the South and Central America technology industry

Brazil topped the region’s tech industry IT recruitment activity with a 52.75% share in March 2022, down 41.66% from February 2022. Argentina was next with a share of 13.69%, down 17.96% from the previous month. Colombia recorded a share of 11.29%, a growth of 15.31% compared to February 2022.

Junior-level job openings dominate in March 2022

Junior level jobs held a share of 70.43%, down 18.69% from February 2022. Entry level positions with a share of 14.89%, saw a decline of 12, 35% compared to the previous month.

In third place were mid-level vacancies with 14.49% market share, down 58.21% from February 2022, while senior vacancies accounted for 0.2%, registering a monthly decline of 75%.
