President Tsai touts a golden decade for Taiwan’s tech industry

Taipei, May 24 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said Tuesday at the opening of COMPUTEX Taipei 2022 that the government will continue to work with the private sector to usher in a new “golden decade” for Taiwan’s technology industry.

The information and communication technology (ICT) sector will continue to play a major role in advancing economic development and is also key in promoting the digital transformation of other industries, Tsai said in his keynote address. opening.

She went on to mention the highly resilient and competitive semiconductor ecosystem the country has built over the past four decades, from foundry and integrated circuit (IC) design to packaging and testing.

In the future, cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing will rely heavily on semiconductors, she said.

As such, the president said Taiwan should continue to leverage its strength in manufacturing high-end hardware so that the ICT industry can further expand its applications to smart machinery and smart medical care, in the aim of making the Taiwanese economy more competitive internationally.

The government will continue to work with the private sector to promote Taiwan’s digital transformation, boost economic development and jointly build another golden decade for the country’s tech industry, Tsai said.

Jointly organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and the Taipei Computer Association, COMPUTEX 2022 resumed physical exhibitions this year at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center after a two-year hiatus.
