Tech Industry Outlook 2022 | Deloitte United States

Laying the foundation for future growth

When the pandemic began two years ago, it catapulted many organizations into the future, rapidly accelerating digital transformation. Work environments have changed overnight as remote work has become commonplace and market demands have evolved. Deloitte urged technology organizations to upgrade their supply chains for greater transparency and resilience and embrace cloud, all-as-a-service (XaaS) and edge intelligence to scale up their transformation efforts.

As 2021 began and many supply networks struggled, we advised tech industry leaders to re-examine where and how manufacturing happens and focus on improving transparency, flexibility and resilience. We also suggested that organizations reorient and retrain their workforce to optimize remote working capabilities and take full advantage of advanced technologies such as AI.

As 2022 begins, many of these issues remain front and center for tech companies, with one important difference: Leaders now have the ability to address these challenges in a more deliberate and focused way. Instead of managing an immediate crisis, they can lay a solid foundation for future innovation and growth.

Some of the specific themes we see playing a fundamental role in 2022 and beyond include:

  • Taking cloud and everything as a service to the next level. As more enterprises adopt cloud and service-based computing to drive innovation and transformation, and as XaaS vendors multiply, more work will be needed to manage the technical and operational complexities of hybrid and multi-cloud approaches.
  • Creating the supply chains of the future. As technology companies continue to recover from pandemic-induced supply chain disruptions, they will begin to proactively prepare for future uncertainty and other systemic risks. To do this, they will build systems with better visibility and resilience.
  • Build the next iteration of the hybrid workforce. With more experience using a hybrid workforce under their collective belts, tech companies will shift their cultures, accelerate experimentation with collaboration solutions, and develop better approaches to managing tax implications.
  • Leading the charge to create a sustainable future. While the tech industry is striving to address critical sustainability issues, growing stakeholder pressure and potential changes to environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting rules will cause tech companies to focus more on sustainability. reduction and reversal of environmental impact.
