Over the years, technology has evolved and created innovations in almost every industry. The impact is also visible in the education sector. The universe of education continues to grow with the multiple transformations resulting from the digital revolution induced by the Covid.

In today’s globalized world, the educational model has changed and it has become imperative for educators and students to keep abreast of the latest technological changes impacting hybrid culture. In continuation of this, many online platforms and technology trends are emerging and shaping the future of higher education in India.

Distance learning

Distance learning is considered the most important part of education especially after covid. It has helped both urban and rural students learn from anywhere and has also empowered working professionals to break out of the metaphorical box of education and opt for higher education through easily accessible online courses. Recently, the government has introduced programs like PM eVIDYA program, DIKSHA and others to boost global best practices of online education in India.

AI in Education

Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in higher education. Technologies like augmented and virtual reality in the classroom make learning more fun and experiential. Now students have the opportunity to learn differently by experiencing text, statistics and stories in the virtual world.

AI-powered tools such as plagiarism detection, chatbots for enrollment and retention, learning management systems, transcription of faculty lectures, analysis of student success metrics , academic research, etc. are used in higher education. A Business Standard report reveals that by 2024, 47% of learning management tools will be AI enabled. Additionally, AI helps teachers see what’s happening in a classroom in real time, automate activities like multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks and report cards, which are otherwise a tedious task to prepare for teachers. AI can simplify the process, helping teachers personalize learning experiences and tailor content to each student.

Robust teaching

To meet the demands of today’s students, teachers must be more robust in their teaching skills and adapt to new models of education systems. This means using a variety of digital teaching techniques and having a deep conceptual understanding with faster and more accurate procedural fluency to meet the needs of each student.

Electronic books

The traditional culture of textbooks is a permanent feature in the lives of students. However, the prolonged unavailability of physical books in the market due to the Covid-19 driven lockdown has led to an adoption of e-books and audiobooks in India. Audiobooks are one of the evolving educational trends among Indians given that they are much more convenient, available for use anywhere and flexible for listeners.

The rise of blended learning:

Online learning is becoming increasingly popular as it provides students with a flexible and convenient way to study. More and more people are choosing to study online, as it allows them to fit in their studies with other commitments. Online learning is also becoming more affordable, as there are no travel or accommodation costs.

The rise of online learning is having a positive impact on the higher education sector, as it makes education more accessible to people who otherwise could not attend traditional universities. Moreover, it benefits employers, as it allows them to develop their employees without having to send them away from work for longer practical trainings.

Experimental learning

Hands-on learning is an emerging trend in higher education. It indicates that students not only learn theoretical concepts but also gain practical knowledge in their fields. It is trendy because it allows students to apply their knowledge in a practical situation, especially in sectors like engineering and healthcare. For example, students must understand and apply medical principles in a clinical setting, and engineering students must plan and build projects that work in the real world.

Hands-on learning is booming for a number of reasons, such as employers looking for graduates with real-world experience in their fields. Another rationale is that it improves students’ memory. Overall, the move towards experiential learning benefits higher education.
